NOAN vs Notion AI

Notion is a workspace: docs, wikis, databases, and projects that people work in, with AI features layered through it. NOAN is a fact layer: a smaller, verified set of company truths served over an API to agents, apps, and your website. Notion is where your team writes; NOAN is what your company asserts. If your problem is organizing collaborative work, choose Notion. If your problem is that agents and apps need one governed source of truth, choose NOAN. Plenty of teams run both, with NOAN holding the approved facts that Notion pages merely discuss.

What it isThe company brain and API: verified facts, tasks, contacts, notes, and assets behind one REST endpointA connected workspace: docs, wikis, databases, projects, with AI assistance and agents in beta
Source of truthApproved, versioned facts with an owner; one source of truth for the whole companyPages and databases anyone can edit; truth is whatever the latest edit says
VerificationFacts enter through a verify gate: a human approves before anything reads it as trueNo approval gate on content; permissions control who edits, not what is verified
APIPlain REST plus MCP, bearer keys, unlimited API keys on every planREST API for pages and databases; built for content sync more than for grounding agents
AgentsBuilt for agents: facts to ground on, a task board to control them, any modelNotion AI assists inside the workspace; custom agents priced per 1,000 credits
AuditabilityEvery fact versioned with full history and Time Travel; every agent action lands on the task boardPage history on paid plans; no per-claim versioning or approval trail
Pricing modelWhole-workspace plans from $99/month; unlimited keys, no per-agent or per-task meteringPer seat: Plus around $10 and Business around $20 per member per month, AI trials included; agent usage metered in credits
Lock-inFacts are plain text behind a REST API; one GET exports everythingMarkdown and CSV export; databases and relations flatten on the way out

When to choose Notion AI

  • You need a team workspace for docs, wikis, and projects that humans read and write every day
  • Your knowledge is collaborative and evolving, and an approval gate would slow it down
  • You want AI assistance inside documents rather than an API for external agents

When to choose NOAN

  • Agents, apps, or your website need to read company truth programmatically and be right every time
  • You want a verify gate so nothing becomes truth until someone approved it
  • You want to change a fact once and have every surface update, instead of chasing stale pages

Common questions

Is NOAN a Notion alternative?

Only partly. NOAN replaces Notion where Notion is being used as a company source of truth for AI: pasting pages into prompts, pointing agents at a wiki. It does not replace Notion as a collaborative docs and projects workspace. Different jobs, honestly different tools.

Can Notion AI ground external agents?

Notion's AI works best inside Notion. There is an API, and agents can query databases, but pages are unverified and edit-latest wins, so what an agent reads may be a draft, a brainstorm, or stale. NOAN exists precisely to give agents a governed, versioned source instead.

Can I use NOAN and Notion together?

Yes, and it is a common pattern: work happens in Notion, and the facts that must be true, pricing, positioning, policies, product claims, get verified into NOAN, where agents, apps, and the website read them over the API.
